Rita Panahi confuses Sam Smith with Oli London in Sky News interview over music video

Sky News presenter Rita Panahi was slammed for mis-gender identity with pop star Sam Smith during an interview with a controversial YouTuber who claims to be “transracial”.
The host welcomed Oli London to her show on Wednesday to talk about Smith – who is non-binary and uses the pronouns “they/they” – and her latest video, I’m Not Here to Make Friends.
While referring to Smith as non-binary, Panahi then immediately and repeatedly used “he” when discussing the hitmaker.
The wrong gender was ignored by London, who previously identified as trans and non-binary before announcing he was “happier living as a man”.

“I want to ask you about Sam Smith, the non-binary artist Sam Smith and his music video, which is available everywhere for all ages,” Panahi said on her Sky News show.
“It’s for the song where he’s wearing his glitzy corset, and heels, and a tiara, and no bra.
“He wears nipple covers and does all kinds of twists and turns with men and women, and I’m sure there are some non-binary people out there.
“And there’s also a pee scene, which is pretty gross if you ask me. What do you think of this video and the message it sends to Sam’s young fans?’

London, who was born to two white British parents and previously had surgery to look like K-pop star Jimin and now claims to be “Korean,” slammed Smith for “bad messaging” and “misrepresenting” LGBTQ+ people community to.
“When people look at the LGBT community, they think, ‘This is normal — urinating, those golden showers in the music video, those people in leather bondage squirming on the bed,'” he told the host.
“We shouldn’t look at Sam Smith and think, ‘This is how all LGBT people are.’
“And I think YouTube should have a content limit because why would a five or six year old get that recommended in their search engine when they’re on YouTube?
“Why would they be exposed to something so sexual that it should have at least an 18 plus rating?”

The comments come as fans jumped to Sam Smith’s defense after her new music video sparked outrage over its “hypersexualized” scenes – arguing it’s “continued for decades”.
London previously identified as non-binary and used she/she pronouns before coming out as trans.
He then announced that he was “detransitioning” into one man and using his 64,000 followers to push anti-trans rhetoric and blame “wake-up culture” for his previous transition.
The aspiring influencer, 33, lived as a woman for six months and underwent feminizing facial surgery to soften his features before he now says he found he was actually happier living as a man.
He has drawn many critics after claiming to be “transracial” and spending more than $500,000 to look like Korean pop stars.
Speaking to Britain’s Channel 4 last year, London stressed: “We all have the right to choose how we identify and choose who we want to be. I’m Korean and people have to accept that.”

But fans have been quick to point out how similarly daring videos have been released by global artists like Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s Relax. Madonna’s “Like a Prayer”, Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” and Queen’s “I Want To Break Free”.
Smith’s music video shows them arriving at a castle in a helicopter before dancing alongside a large cast of performers wearing corsets, suspenders and nipple tassels, while at one point a fountain of water is seen spraying into the singer’s mouth becomes.
Smith revealed last month that they were spat on in the street after coming out as non-binary.
The Grammy winner changed her gender pronouns to her/her in 2019 and said she wished they had done it sooner, but was also open about the shocking backlash.
Speaking to Zane Lowe about Apple Music’s Beats 1 in 2020, Smith said they feared they’d be misgendered “until the day they die.”
“The difficult thing is that people change their vocabulary; this is very, very difficult. It takes time. Everyone messes up. I will be wrong gender until the day I die,” he said.
“It’s going to be a long, long time before people don’t use gender in their vocabulary.”
