Rudy Giuliani walks out of court after a judge ordered him to pay his ex-wife $235,000

Rudy Giuliani failed to appear at his Manhattan court hearing when a judge ordered him to pay his ex-wife $235,000 in late divorce payments or face jail time.

Manhattan Superior Court Judge Michael Katz delivered his verdict on Friday in the case between Giuliani, 78, and his ex-wife Judith, 67, who claimed he defaulted on $262,000 that she paid under owed to their heated 2019 divorce, reports the New York Post.

“If the amount is not paid by that date, I will be forced – unfortunately, because I don’t want to do that – I will be forced to remand the accused,” Katz said.

The judge found that because Giuliani failed to appear in court or dispute Judith’s allegations, he ultimately granted the ex-wife’s request to the former mayor of New York City, a late payment of $225,000 plus an additional $10,000 to pay for attorneys’ fees.

“He clearly hasn’t lived up to his commitments,” Katz said. ‘Unfortunately I am forced to find him in contempt.’

Dror Bikel, Judith’s lawyer, told the Post it was “outrageous” for Giuliani not to appear in court and he was grateful that Katz ordered the accused jailed if he didn’t pay.

“For him turning his nose up in court and not bothering to show up and appear in court — God forbid anyone would do that to him when he was a US Attorney,” Bikel said.

Giuliani officials did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment.

Giuliani had previously said that his wife’s estimates that he owed her $260,000 was a “gross exaggeration” and said he actually owed her $50,000 instead.

“I owe her money, but I don’t owe her $260,000.”

Judith filed the lawsuit in Manhattan Superior Court last month, alleging that Giuliani was “inconsistent and sporadic” with the payments he was required to make to her under their divorce settlement.

The couple split in 2018 after 15 years of marriage, followed by a fiery court battle over their $30 million fortune.

Per their divorce settlement, Giuliani agreed to pay his ex-wife $5,000 a month to provide her with a housekeeper or assistant and $200,000 for an unsold $3.3 million piece of real estate. that they owned.

Judith claimed that when Giuliani tried to pay $10,000 of the $45,000 owed last year in back payments for the aid, the check bounced.

Despite his recent legal troubles, Judith is “confident” that Rudy can afford to pay her the amount owed through multiple properties he owns in New York City and Palm Beach, Florida.

Alongside his ex-wife’s lawsuit, Giuliani is also being sued by Dominion Voting Systems for $1.3 billion over his substantiated allegations that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.

Giuliani had led former President Donald Trump’s legal effort to overturn election results won by Joe Biden in several swing states, including Georgia.

The former Trump attorney had also suspended his licensee in New York and Washington, DC as he faces election-related ethics allegations.

His passionate promotion of claims that the election was stolen culminated in Giuliani speaking at a press conference with hair dye dripping down the side of his face.

“From America’s hero to a man whose hair color is running down his face, what happened?” Judith was asked by Inside Edition last week.

“It breaks my heart,” she replied. ‘It is sad.’

Judith said it was painful to see her ex-husband fall from grace, having previously been held up as “America’s mayor” for his leadership of New York City during the September 11 terrorist attack.

“I can tell you for sure — the person you are seeing now is not the man I married,” she said.

Judith said a turning point came when her then-husband failed to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, losing to John McCain.

She said Donald Trump, a contemporary of Rudy Giuliani who has known the Brooklyn-born mayor for decades, agreed to help him recover from the election defeat.

“We stayed at Mar-A-Lago. We got a place for Rudy to find sanctuary and recuperate,” she said.

She said he was delighted to have been asked by Trump to serve as his attorney in 2018.

“That’s when what I observed happened to him — that power is just extremely addictive,” she said.

“One of the other things Rudy also loves is the limelight.”
