Salernitana is interested in bringing Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr to Serie A on loan.

The 20-year-old, who won the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal last February, is yet to establish himself in a Spurs shirt and despite recently getting a run from Antonio Conte he has had very few minutes since arriving .

Spurs completed the signing of Sarr from Metz in the 2021 summer window for £14.5m but the midfielder has been loaned to France for the remainder of the season.

Since his return, he has played just two – albeit impressive – games under Conte, both of whom came on as a substitute against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace in the last week.

While the midfielder has established himself as a Senagagas international, he has only played 34 minutes for Spurs – largely due to Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma being unavailable.

Sarr will be hoping to get more minutes in the FA Cup third round on Saturday afternoon when Spurs host Portsmouth.

Tottenham assistant Cristian Stellini, who stepped in for Conte after the death of his former Juventus team-mate Gianluca Vialli, praised Sarr as a “great player with many opportunities” before the tie.

“He’s a very young player. It is the first time he has come to England. He has a year’s experience in Ligue 1 in France,” he said.

“In terms of his ability, he can do anything because he’s a great player with a lot of opportunities. He’s a midfielder who can play in many positions. He’s a talented player.

“I spoke at my last press conference about how to wait with young players. If you use young players at the wrong time, you can make a mistake. But with Pape, Antonio decided at that moment that Pape is ready and he’s improved a lot in training.

“We’ve done a lot of work on posture and a lot of the skills he needs to improve. He showed the will to improve and that’s very important for us. If you’re working with a player and they show that desire, it’s easier. It’s easy with Pape.

“He has to keep working because we have a hierarchy, so he has to respect that and we have to respect the players. He has the opportunity now and he has to show his will and quality.’
