Sam Armytage recalls meeting a “very soulful” Russell Brand during an interview on Australian breakfast show Sunrise in 2009.

The former Channel Seven presenter interviewed the British comedian during his tour of the country this year in what was described as an “infamous and intimate encounter”.

Russell, now 48 and married to Laura Gallacher, was embroiled in a Dispatches expose this week that revealed allegations of misconduct, rape and sexual assault – all of which he denies.

“Obviously he was always pretty outrageous in his personality,” Armytage, 47, said The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday.

“But I remember him being very touchy and thinking it was quite excessive considering I didn’t know him.”

During the 2009 segment with Armytage, Brand seductively chewed on a banana and flirted with the blonde TV star, who then blushed.

“If you were on my TV as a teenager, that would mess me up.” “I think you’re great,” he joked.

Armytage responded that the comment was “friendly,” but Brand responded, “That’s not friendly… it’s just a little rude.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Armytage asked Brand if he was a sex addict, to which he responded in mock shock: “No!” What? Sex addiction?’

Brand admitted he was previously addicted to drugs, telling the host that he used drugs “morning, noon and night” but had been sober for six years at the time.

The clip is just one of many that have resurfaced days after Russell was accused of rape and sexual assault by four different women.

The allegations were revealed in a joint investigation by The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches, which uncovered a litany of allegations against the comedian and wellness influencer.

The Metropolitan Police said it would speak to the media following the allegations to investigate Russell’s alleged treatment of women, but added that at this stage police had “not received any reports in relation” to the sexual assault allegations detailed in the Article or documentation.

Russell strenuously denied the allegations in a YouTube video posted the day before the Dispatches special aired, in which he described the claims as “serious” and “disturbing.”

Russell said he received two “extremely disturbing letters” from a “mainstream media TV company” and a newspaper.

The father-of-two said the letters detailed “a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks that are untrue.”

Posting the video on And as I’ve detailed in my books, I was very, very promiscuous.

“During this period of promiscuity, the relationships I had were completely consensual.” I was always transparent about that back then, and I still am today.

“And seeing how that transparency has turned into something criminal that I absolutely deny makes me wonder if there is another agenda at play,” he added.
