Savannah Marshall has announced that she has activated her rematch clause to fight Claressa Shields again in 2023.

Marshall and Shields went head-to-head at the O2 Arena in October, with the American prevailing and earning a hard-fought unanimous decision.

But Marshall still believes she can beat her bitter rival and 31-year-old Geordie will be hoping to regain home field advantage as the fight is set to take place at Newcastle’s home ground, St James’ Park.

“I know Sky and BOXXER are very keen to get the rematch at St James’ Park in the summer,” Marshall told Soccer AM on Saturday morning.

“It would be in the summer so it doesn’t clash with the football season.”

The first bout was a big event for British boxing as it was an all-women card and it seems the rematch will be even bigger if St James’ Park is the chosen venue.

St James’ Park has a capacity of over 52,000 spectators meaning this could be the highest attended fight of all time in women’s boxing.

The Marshall-Shields rivalry dates back over a decade after the Brit defeated Shields in the amateurs in 2012.

Shields has not lost since, winning two Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016 and winning world titles in three different weight classes after his professional career.

The 27-year-old is the self-proclaimed GWOAT (Greatest Woman Of All Time) and took revenge on her loss to Marshall two months ago.

With the two currently tied at 1-1 in terms of wins, it seems fans could see the decider next year.
