Serena Williams has shared a glimpse of her early days without tennis, posting a photo of herself in bed.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner played her last match on Friday night and was eliminated from the US Open with a three-set loss to Ajla Tomljanovic.

Williams was overcome with emotion as she retired from the sport, though she left the door slightly open to a return one day.

In her post-match press conference, she said that she would choose karaoke on the first day since she ended her glittering career.

But on Monday, she showed fans what she was up to by posting a picture of herself sleeping.

Alongside the photo of her lying in bed under Disney character Moana’s bedding, she wrote: “How was your weekend? That was mine….’

Williams said she wanted to spend her first day of retirement in the karaoke booth before insisting she was excited to explore Serena 2.0.

When asked what her plans are for the first day of the rest of her life, Williams joked, “I think I’ll definitely, probably play karaoke tomorrow.”

Williams revealed in an interview with Vogue last month that she intends to “evolve” away from tennis and her appearance at Flushing Meadows is expected to be her last tournament.

The 40-year-old said after their latest match: “I’m ready to be a mom and explore a different version of Serena.

“And technically I’m super young so I want to have some life while I’m still walking,” she added with a small giggle.

In her on-court interview, Williams seemed to leave the door slightly ajar for a comeback. When asked if that was the case, she replied, “I guess so, you never know,” before promptly exiting the court.

Williams had flown past Danka Kovinic in the opening round of the Grand Slam before beating world No. 2 Anett Kontaveit on Wednesday.

However, their fairy tale of New York ended at the huge Arthur Ashe Stadium after three hours and four minutes of a superb fight against Tomljanovic.

Serena Williams joked she would spend the day

Serena Williams joked she would spend the day “karaoke-ing” after her US Open loss.

“Oh my god thank you so much you guys were amazing today,” she said in an emotional on-pitch interview. “I tried, but Ajla just played a little bit better.”

With tears in her eyes, she added: “Thanks daddy I know you’re watching. Thank you mum. I just want to say thank you to everyone who is here, who is on my side for so many years, decades. But it all started with my parents and they deserve everything so I’m really grateful to them.”

Williams, choking on emotion, continued to praise her older sister, Venus, for inspiring her instrumental role in her career.

“Those are tears of joy, I guess,” she said. “And I wouldn’t be Serena if it wasn’t Venus, so thanks Venus. She’s the only reason Serena Williams ever existed.

“It was a fun ride, it was the most incredible ride and journey I’ve ever had in my life. And I’m so grateful to every single person who’s ever said, “Go, Serena.” I’m just so grateful because it brought me here.
