Sergio Aguero is staying at the Argentina team hotel with his old pal Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi has been reunited with former teammate and close friend Sergio Aguero after the former Manchester City star joined Argentina’s squad and is now cohabiting with the Argentine skipper.

Aguero, 34, was forced to retire from football in December 2021 due to a heart condition but traveled to Qatar for the tournament and was there to present Messi with his Player of the Match trophy after the 3-0 win in the semifinals Croatia.

The couple will now be able to spend some more time together after Argentina outlet TYC Sports reported that Aguero has become Messi’s roommate at Argentina’s hotel ahead of the tournament’s final.

Messi had opted for a room alone in Qatar as he wanted to focus on his last shot at the World Cup, but now he has his old pal on hand to help him prepare for Sunday’s spectacle.

There was a suggestion that Emiliano Martinez would share a room with Messi for the World Cup, but the Aston Villa goalkeeper is said to be staying with a member of Argentina’s coaching staff. Releasing Aguero to join Messi, just like old times.

Aguero even took part in training with Lionel Scaloni’s side on Thursday and scored a worldie to prove he still has it. He and Messi have been friends for almost two decades, and Messi recently joined his friend during a live Twitch stream.

The pair won an Olympic gold medal together for Argentina in 2008, as well as last year’s COPA America. Messi is also the godfather of Aguero’s 13-year-old son Benjamin.

The former Man City wasn’t the only familiar face to join the Argentine camp, the Argentine FA also recalled three players who missed the tournament through injury; Nicolas Gonzalez, Joaquin Correa and Giovani Lo Celso.

Messi heads into Sunday’s final against France to cement his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time by lifting the World Cup in his last game in the competition.

His performances were instrumental in propelling Argentina to the final and is the tournament’s top scorer with five goals and three assists so far in Qatar.
