Shakhtar Donetsk still want Tottenham to pay a £5.6million transfer fee for Manor Solomon’s free signing as club boss says they’ve invested money in the player they ‘can’t afford’ to lose
- Tottenham have signed Israel international Manor Solomon on a free transfer
- The 23-year-old forward spent last season on loan at newly promoted Fulham
- Shakhtar Donetsk received nothing for him but they hope to change that
Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergei Palkin says he plans to meet with Tottenham officials in hopes of securing a transfer fee for Manor Solomon.
Solomon, whose contract with Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk expired in June, has agreed to join the Premier League side on a free transfer after his successful loan spell at Fulham last season.
The forward began his season at Craven Cottage with a serious knee injury but has made 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals.
Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, players from Russian and Ukrainian clubs are allowed to unilaterally suspend their contracts until June 2024.
Solomon’s contract with Shakhtar was due to expire on December 31, 2023, allowing him to sit out past the expiration date, allowing him to join Spurs as a free agent.

Shakhtar travels to London for a friendly with Spurs next week and will take the opportunity to discuss a transfer fee as they seek to recoup the £5.6million they paid to sign him from Maccabi Petah Tikva in 2019.
“We are sure Tottenham executives understand that Shakhtar invested a lot of money in the Solomon transfer, an investment that Ukrainian clubs simply cannot afford to lose in our difficult situation,” said Palkin standard sport.
“We hope to have a meeting with Tottenham officials on the eve of our friendly and find a good faith solution to the Manor Solomon issue.” The solution should satisfy both sides.

“We’re not trying to make any profit.” We just have to cover whatever we’ve lost, and that’s all. “I believe that we will find a solution, an amicable solution, so that all parties are satisfied.”
Solomon, 23, started his career at local Israeli club Maccabi Petah Tikva before joining Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2019.
There the winger won the national championship title twice and gained valuable experience in the Champions League. In October 2019, he became the youngest Israeli player to score in the competition against Atalanta.
