A single mother who called Triple-0 to falsely claim her ex-partner had threatened her and her children with a gun, had been drinking all night and played Fortnite, a court has heard.

Jaimee-Lee Watson, 33, faced up to a year in prison when she pleaded guilty to false allegations in Manjimup Magistrates Court in south-west Australia last week.

The court heard she called in desperation in the early hours of October 1, claiming her ex-partner had made threats against her and their five children and would not let them leave his home in Greenbushes.

Two police officers were already on their way to the house when Watson called back 20 minutes later to reassure the operator that her safety was no longer at risk and that no help was needed.

The operator informed her that the police were already rushing to the house and would be there in a few minutes.

When police got to the house, they quickly determined that Watson and her children were not in danger.

The court heard Watson wanted to leave but was stopped by her ex-partner because she was too drunk to drive, the Manjimup-Bridgetown Times reported.

The court heard Watson told police she made the false claim to the operator to speed up her response time.

Watson’s attorney, Fiona Walsh, said her client’s “atypical” behavior was down to alcohol and Watson attempted to correct the mistake by making the second call

By that time, two officers had been called back to duty and were on their way to work, the publication reported.

The court heard that Watson had a history of substance abuse as a result of finding her late father.

The police prosecutor told the court the sentence must reflect the seriousness of Watson’s actions. “I doubt there would be another person in this room with a belly full of alcohol who would do what you did,” Justice Linda Keane told Watson.

‘(The charges) could result in imprisonment.’

Watson was ordered to do 40 hours of community service and pay $671.81 to cover the overtime costs of the police officers involved, in addition to court costs.
