Slender looking Donald Trump arrives in Waco for the first rally of the 2024 campaign as Ted Nugent opens
A slimmed-down version of former President Trump traveled to Waco, Texas, for the first rally of his 2024 presidential campaign on Saturday, angered by rocker Ted Nugent, who called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “gay lunatic.”
The former president, 76 but looking slim in a navy suit, white shirt and no tie with an American flag pin at West Palm Beach International Airport, will hold a rally in Waco this afternoon.
Nugent, who had three multi-platinum solo albums in the 1970s and has long been a supporter of conservative causes and President Trump, railed against Washington for spending his taxpayer dollars.
He even went so far as to call Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy a “gay lunatic”.
Nugent was hired to perform the national anthem for the rally – Trump’s first in Texas in the 2024 presidential cycle.

But before playing his electric guitar rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, Nugent addressed the crowd and told them they were the “real America.”
“I’m telling you, the whole world sucks and America is catching up, but here in Waco, Texas with the real s**tkickers, it doesn’t suck at all,” Nugent said.
Trump’s holding of a rally in Waco is “a statement – that he was under siege by the FBI in Mar-a-Lago and that they are accusing him of various things that are not actually true, just as David Koresh was accused by the FBI when they were under siege.” , Koresh’s successor, Pastor Charles Pace, told the New York Times.
Trump’s campaign insisted that the event’s location and timing had nothing to do with the Waco siege or anniversary. Instead, a spokesman said the site was chosen because it is conveniently located near four of the state’s largest metropolitan areas — Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio — and has the infrastructure to handle a sizeable crowd .
The city is part of McLennan County, which Trump won in 2020 by more than 23 points. The airport where the rally is being held is 17 miles from the Branch Davidian Compound.
The rally was already in the works before it became clear that a New York grand jury was closing in on a possible indictment investigating hush money payments to women who alleged sexual encounters with Trump during the height of his 2016 campaign. Trump has denied the women’s claims.
But the timing will give Trump an opportunity to demonstrate his continued popularity with the GOP grassroots and portray himself as the victim of a politically motivated “witch hunt” while he campaigns for a second term in the White House.
The musician then turned to Trump supporters who were jailed for their involvement in the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

Ted Nugent, speaking at a Donald Trump presidential campaign rally in Waco, Texas, called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “gay lunatic.”
“How about a prayer for the political prisoners in Washington, DC who fell victim to Uncle Sam’s boot-wearing gangsters who defied their oath to the Constitution and arrested Americans and denied them constitutional rights,” Nugent said.
He then asked for a “minute’s silence for the political prisoners”.
Afterwards, Nugent said he had a few ideas for the country.
“Secure my border!” he shouted.
“Give me my tax money back. I did not authorize the killing of babies at Planned Parenthood,” he said. “I want my tax money back. I want my tax money back. I did not authorize giving our military equipment to the Taliban.’
“I want my money back,” he continued. “I have not approved money into Ukraine for any homosexual lunatic.”

The rally comes as Trump has berated prosecutors, encouraged protests and threatened possible violence if he becomes the first former president in US history to be criminally charged by New York City Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Some of his recent rhetoric reflects the language he used before the January 6, 2021 riot in the US Capitol by a mob of his supporters trying to stop the transfer of power.
“What kind of person can accuse another person, in this case a former President of the United States … and front runner (by far!) for the Republican Party nomination, of a crime when all of this is NOT known to have been committed, & also knew that potential death and destruction in such a false accusation could be catastrophic for our country?’ Trump wrote on his social media page early Friday.
The grand jury is investigating the hush money payment and is expected to meet again on Monday in New York.

Trump has been railing against the investigation for weeks now. In a move aimed at forestalling a formal announcement and strengthening his loyal base, he claimed last Saturday that he would be arrested the following Tuesday. Though that didn’t happen, Trump has used the days since to try to shape public perceptions, for example by claiming that Manhattan prosecutors were in “complete confusion” despite there being no evidence prosecutors did receded the case.
The Manhattan case centers on a $130,000 payment made by Trump’s longtime attorney and fixer Michael Cohen to pornographic actor Stormy Daniels while Trump was in the midst of the 2016 campaign. Trump later reimbursed Cohen, and his company booked the reimbursements as legal expenses. Cohen has already served time in prison after pleading guilty to charges including campaign finance and lying to Congress.
Trump also faces an investigation in Georgia over his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, as well as federal investigations into his handling of classified documents and possible obstruction, and his Jan. 6 efforts.
