Soaked campers show somber scenes from the rainy Bluedot festival as organizers announce no more people can get inside

The Bluedot Festival turned away ticket holders on the final day of the science, music and arts event as sodden campers unveiled the rain-soaked site.
Festival organizers announced this morning that day pass holders will not be able to attend the event as “unprecedented rainfall” rendered the pickup, drop-off and entry points “impassable”.
Weekend ticket holders who were already at Jodrell Bank in Cheshire were still allowed to attend today’s celebrations, although some took to Twitter to say they had left early due to the mud and standing water.
The crews had been working throughout the weekend and night, but a statement on Bluedot’s website revealed that despite their best efforts, they had “reached the point where it is no longer possible to accommodate more spectator vehicles on site”.
Organizers said those affected by today’s cancellations would receive a refund of their tickets, adding they were “very sad” that they could not accommodate everyone who had planned to share in the festival’s “extraordinary moments of wonder, exploration and celebration”.

The Bluedot festival looked more like a mud pit this year after rains inundated the campsite.
Festival staff tried to counteract the effects of the weather by laying 1.5km of extra mats and track, bringing in 130 tonnes of sustainably sourced wood chips and bringing several trucks on site to pump out standing water – but organizers today said their efforts hadn’t solved the problem.
“We have had an unprecedented amount of rainfall over the past seven days which has caused water levels to reach saturation point during the night making our day pass holder parking lot, pickup and drop off point and entrances impassable due to standing water,” a spokesman wrote.
“Despite our continuous work throughout the weekend, it has come to a point where it is no longer possible to accommodate more spectator vehicles on site.”
Organizers said they did “everything in our power” to accommodate today’s guests and are “proud to welcome you today to something that is close to our hearts”.

“We are very sad that we cannot share this with people who were due to arrive today.” “Thank you for your understanding,” the spokesman said, noting information on refunds would be released in the next 48 hours.
Although the festival continued today for campers who were already there, several said the muddy conditions bothered them.
“I left Bluedot this morning,” wrote Twitter user @niknots10. “Not pleasant, another night would not be possible.”
User @boboshady reiterated, ‘Mud got us – crawling baby, two almost teens and three days of incessant rain don’t mix.’ Cya next year, Bluedot.’

Others praised the work of the Bluedot staff and commended them for their hard work despite the inclement weather.
“Bluedot was incredibly wet, the teams did a great job,” wrote @jjturner. “So much mud, just everywhere.”
“The revelers at Bluedot stressed that there are no such things as bad conditions, just improper clothing,” joked @lennylaw.
“Thank you @bluedotfestival. “We love you,” added @fairycakepixie. “My brain is full, my heart is happy.” The rain and mud can’t take away how amazing Bluedot is.”
