Socceroos star Garang Kuol could play against Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic

Socceroos star Garang Kuol could end up playing Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic champions side as the Scottish rivals “hunt the youngster move to Premier League giants Newcastle”.

  • Hearts FC in Scotland are reportedly looking to loan Garang Kuol from Newcastle
  • Cam Devlin, Kye Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson are other Socceroos at Hearts
  • Magpies boss Eddie Howe wants the prodigy to play regular first-team football
  • Reading in the British Championship are also reportedly interested in strikers or wingers

Socceroo’s youngster Garang Kuol could travel to Scotland to start his European football journey.

Hearts FC – who have Australians Kye Rowles, Cam Devlin and Nathaniel Atkinson on their books – are reportedly keen on securing the services of the electric teenager, who has been loaned out by EPL club Newcastle United.

18-year-old Kuol also played alongside World Cup star Rowles in the A-League for the Central Coast Mariners.

According to the Daily Record, Hearts officials have reached out to the Magpies about Kuol’s availability for the remainder of the season.

On loan to Hearts, the 18-year-old would also potentially face Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic.

With Newcastle sitting third in the EPL and having lost just once all season, the prodigy seems unlikely to join Eddie Howe’s first team for the next few months.

The fact that Kuol was granted a work permit in the UK after impressing at the World Cup could see him staying in England – with Championship side Reading also reportedly circling on purpose.

While Kuol watched his new side play Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in London this week, Howe is believed to want the striker or winger to secure regular first-team football elsewhere before calling home St James’ Park.

“I think for the player’s development he has to go and play,” Howe said recently.

“If possible, that would be at a very good level, with a good club and a good coach.

“It’s not a decision that has been made at this point, so we need to review all of our options.”

Mariners manager Nick Montgomery, who played in the EPL with Sheffield United at the height of his career, is confident the boom youngster will shine in Europe.

“He (Kuol) is just a kid – he’s started three games for us and it’s going to be a physical and typographic shock for him when he gets over there,” Montgomery told FTBL.

“Hopefully they (Newcastle) find a club that suits them – I’m sure they will. He just has to keep playing and get a lot of football going.

“Time will tell for Garang – he has all the potential and now it’s ultimately up to him what happens next. He’s at a great club and that’s crucial for his development.

Kuol played his junior football for the Goulburn Valley Suns in Victoria before being acquired by the Mariners Academy in January 2021.

Socceroos boss Graham Arnold labeled Kuol a “bolter” for his 26-man Middle East squad and the electric youngster saw a last-minute shot against Argentina that would have sent the round of 16 into extra time.

Lionel Messi and his teammates lifted the World Cup trophy weeks later.
