Southampton 2-3 Bournemouth: David Brooks scores the late winner for the Premier League side in the friendly – but Saints captain James Ward Prowse was left out of the squad following West Ham’s bid

Southampton captain James Ward Prowse has been left out of Tuesday’s friendly squad due to interest from West Ham.

The Hammers have cash left over after Declan Rice left for Arsenal for £105million and are keen to bring the midfielder back to the Premier League following Southampton’s relegation.

The reigning Europa Conference League champions have made an opening £25million offer to the south coast and are awaiting a response.

However, his exclusion from the squad on Tuesday night was dismissed as a precautionary measure following a knee injury.

Southampton midfielder Shea Charles headed home a Ryan Manning free-kick from the left to close the gap just before half-time.

Both Solanke and Ouattara had excellent chances in the second half, but were blocked by strong blocks.
