Southampton agree a £12.3million fee for Racing Club midfielder Carlos Alcaraz

Southampton have agreed a £12.3m transfer fee for midfielder Carlos Alcaraz with Racing Club.

The 20-year-old will arrive for a medical on Tuesday after the clubs agreed a deal that includes add-ons and a 15 per cent sell-off. They had rejected an initial £8.8million bid over the weekend.

The Argentine, who scored the winning goal in the 2022 Argentine Cup final against Boca Juniors, has signed a contract until 2027.

Alcaraz mainly plays right in front of defence, and would fit perfectly into Jones’ squad given the club’s lack of midfielders, a problem for Southampton.

Despite being so young, Alcaraz is close to making 100 appearances for his side – which underscores his potential.

Southampton have been in poor form so far this season and are in desperate need of a turnaround as the Saints are currently bottom of the Premier League.
