“Charly’s arrival is another great asset for us,” said Saints boss Jones.

“There was a lot of interest across Europe so it’s great to invite him and to have done it fairly early in the month too.

“He’ll give us a really exciting option and add some creativity to the site, which will be a real benefit for us.

“I know how determined he is to step up and help us, so we look forward to working with him and we will also make sure he has all the support he needs to settle in here.”

Alcaraz rose to prominence in his home country when he debuted for Racing Club in 2020 at the age of 17 and played 83 games.

The midfielder played a key role in last year’s Primera Division runners-up, scoring the winning goal in the Champions Trophy final against Boca Juniors.

He added: “I’m really excited to be part of this club.

“I knew it was going to be a new challenge for me and my career so I wanted to take that on as I knew I was going to join a great club.

“I can’t wait to start training and playing and I’m ready to give 100 per cent for this club and this shirt. I’m looking forward to meeting all my teammates and I’m ready to give it my all.”
