Spectator’s satirical Joe Biden cover is ‘restricted’ by Facebook

Spectator’s satirical Joe Biden cover is ‘restricted’ by Facebook as the magazine’s editor says previous satires by Donald Trump and Boris Johnson have been waved through
- The Spectator was told that its front page would need special authorization
- It shows the US President mistakenly holding up five fingers instead of six
- The magazine’s editor suggested that the problem stemmed from political bias
Facebook last night apparently banned a political magazine from running a satirical front page about Joe Biden as an ad.
The Spectator was told its latest front page – which shows the US President mistakenly holding up five fingers believing he is holding up six – would need to be specifically authorized to appear on the platform.

Facebook appeared last night to block The Spectator from running a satirical front page about Joe Biden as an ad
The magazine’s editor, Fraser Nelson, suggested the problem stemmed from a political bias in favor of Mr Biden, as satirical front pages about the likes of Donald Trump and Boris Johnson were waved through. He said: “We have appealed to Facebook – we are a political magazine, all our covers are political. appeal rejected. It seems that anti-Biden satire would be rejected by Facebook (or his bots), but when we mocked Trump, Boris, Truss, etc., it was all good and fair comment. Funny old world.’
But Facebook seemed to relent when a spokesman said last night: “Anyone who wants to run an ad that is about politics or elections needs to be authorised. If The Spectator is resubmitted by an authorized site administrator, the ad will be approved.’
