Sporting Lisbon continue to demand buyout clauses for Spurs target Pedro Porro Marcus Edwards

Tottenham continue their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards.

However, the Portuguese giants continue to block all transfers unless players’ release clauses are met.

Porro, 23, has a £40m buyout clause while Edwards, the former Spurs trainee, has a £52m clause but the club still hold one as part of his previous transfer 50 percent sale.

Injuries to Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski left the Spurs thin in attack, with only Harry Kane and Son Heung-min left as first-choice options.

Porro, formerly in the Manchester City books, is used as a full-back at Sporting, similar to Spurs’ Matt Doherty, while Edwards is an attacking midfielder.

Edwards, 24, has newly arrived in the Portuguese capital after joining from Vitoria Guimaraes in January 2022 after proving himself in the Primeira Liga.

But since then he has recorded 12 goals and 12 assists in 39 games in all competitions, including starring for his side against Spurs in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Porro has made 93 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals and providing 19 assists.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte insists the club must invest in the transfer market if they want to challenge for the title.

After Spurs’ New Year’s Day loss to Aston Villa, he said: “I was very clear with the club because I remember very well people talking about Tottenham as title contenders in the summer,” said Conte after the defeat.

“It was a little crazy reading that. To become a title contender, to become a team ready to fight for something, you need a solid foundation.”
