Suspects Kami Carpenter, 21, and Remy Gordon, 22, spoke only to confirm their personal details and to plead not guilty to a related racket charge.

The couple were not asked to file a plea for the murder of Cody Fisher – who was stabbed to death at Crane nightclub in Digbeth.

After a four-minute hearing before two judges, Carpenter and Gordon were ordered to appear again before a judge at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday – with another hearing scheduled for January 30.

The case and several others were listed at Birmingham Crown Court because the nearby Magistrates’ Court was closed.

West Midlands Police said Mr Fisher was fatally stabbed on the dance floor at the nightclub, whose license had been suspended for 28 days on Friday.

This followed allegations by the force that there were “serious management errors” at the venue on the night of his death.

In a review meeting on Friday, Birmingham City Councilors said they would consider whether to permanently close the club in a full review hearing going forward.

Police’s request for review said Mr Fisher died during “a fight on the dance floor” and officers present “described a scene of chaos and evidence of drug use on the premises”.

Officers recovered a knife from the scene and an autopsy confirmed Mr Fisher died of a stab wound.
