Sweden manager Janne Andersson in dispute with ex-Man United player Bojan Djordjic live on TV

Sweden manager Janne Andersson was embroiled in a heated live-on-air row with Bojan Djordjic in which he appeared to question the former Manchester United player’s loyalty to his country.
The lively exchange took place on Monday evening on Swedish television channel Viaplay after the 5-0 win over Azerbaijan in a Euro 2024 qualifier in Stockholm.
It started with pundit Djordjic asking why Jesper Karlsson, the AZ Alkmaar striker who scored Sweden’s fourth goal of the night, wasn’t given more playing time.
“We can debate player selection all bloody night, sorry,” replied an angry Andersson, who suggested to Djordjic that playing Karlsson would mean dropping Newcastle’s Alexander Isak or Coventry’s Viktor Gyokeres from the squad.
According to Aftonbladet, Djordjic countered that eight minutes of action in the last two games was “not enough”.

Andersson asked Serbian-born Swede Djordjic during the argument: “Who do you represent?”.
Andersson angrily replied, “Who shouldn’t play? I can choose the eleven, who doesn’t play? Excuse me, but you can do whatever you want as national coach.”
The manager then accused Djordjic of “whining” before getting really personal as Andersson asked the Belgrade-born former winger: “Who do you represent?”
Djordjic, who represented Sweden until U21 but never played as a senior, replied: “Sweden of course, why shouldn’t I?”
Djordjic is clearly offended that Andersson is questioning his Swedish origins and is not letting the matter go. Is there anything else you want to say?’
Amid a flurry of finger pointing and hand gestures, Andersson complains, “It’s so bad. They stand and talk after a game when we win 5-0.
Djordjic then lets it rip and says: “You talk too much now, you are too aggressive. Why?
“Who else would I represent? Which other country? Serbia, were you serious or not? Is that what you mean to say?

The argument gave Sweden a good night’s sleep as they won the second of their Euro qualifiers

Andersson wasn’t happy about Djordjic’s question about Jesper Karlsson’s playing time
“I represent you just like everyone else. I won’t forget this answer, it’s bad. It’s pretty low for a national team coach to say what you just said. Who do you represent?’
As former Arsenal star Freddie Ljungberg looks on awkwardly alongside Djordjic, presenter Niklas Jihde interrupts to ask what Andersson was pleased with the win.
“I’m not satisfied with anything, it’s cops***. If I come here and lose 3-0 then I would understand. Then I have to be defensive,” he said.
“If we won 5-0, should I be defensive? There are four of you and you will confront me with questions. Damn, that’s bad.’
Then Andersson puts his microphone on the desk and walks away – but that’s not all.

Andersson eventually left the interview after Djordjic questioned his remarks
In the press conference a few minutes later, Andersson was asked about his remark “Who do you represent?” to Djordjic.
‘I don’t know what I said. Don’t talk about Serbia and stuff. I can’t stand that kind of shit,” he said, according to Expressen.
“I speak to him as a media representative. Don’t mix anything else, I can’t take it. I may have expressed myself poorly, but don’t mix it up and I’ll get really angry.
“I can apologize if I said something bad. If I said something bad, I can take responsibility for it. Don’t mix that up and I’ll leave.’
It overshadowed a strong performance from Sweden, who had recovered well from a 3-0 defeat by Belgium in their first EURO qualifier on Friday night.
Man United youngster Anthony Elanga was among the goalscorers in a routine win.
