A man cleaning car windscreens at a busy Sydney intersection has revealed how much money he makes for just a few hours’ work.

The man who also revealed the stingiest and most generous drivers was interviewed at Meccano Set traffic lights in the south-west suburb of Lansdowne.

The window cleaner said there were great opportunities at the intersection if you were willing to put in the hard work.

“If you want to start a window cleaning business, you’ll make it,” he said.

The cleaner, who wore black shorts and a white T-shirt along with sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat, was happy to share insights into his craft.

“I do two hours and make an average of $150,” the man, who was holding a squeegee and a bottle of water, told Mahmoud Ismail for a TikTok video.

“Oh, that’s not bad,” said Mr. Ismail, impressed.

“How do I get a job here?”

“You just have to have the guts to pick up a stick and actually do it,” said the wiper, holding up his wiper.

Mr. Ismail then asked the question that everyone has in mind when they meet a squeegee dealer: “Have you almost been run over?”

“Only from trucks who really like target practice at you,” he said.

The interviewer then got to the point of who gives what and asked which drivers were the most stingy.

What is the Meccano set?

The Meccano Set is the intersection of Hume Highway, Woodville Road and Henry Lawson Drive in Sydney’s south-west suburb of Lansdowne.

Its name comes from the gantries that look like they were built from the Meccano children’s toy.

“Most of the time I actually see them in fucking Teslas,” the man revealed.

“They are the closest.”

The most generous seemed to surprise Mr. Ismail.

“Believe it or not, I had a Lebanese … it was just a small hatchback, and he actually gave me $300 in $100 bills,” the man said.

“I wonder why he had $300,” Ismail replied.

‘Well, he had a nice wad of cash in his hand, that’s for sure,’ said the cleaning lady.

Before introducing his video guest, Mr Ismail explained that the Meccano set is “the most iconic light set in Australia and also the biggest revenue generator in Australia”.

Then he listed how it generates money: “It has a speed camera, a red light camera, a cell phone camera.”

Mr. Ismail then jokingly expanded the list of cameras to include those that don’t actually exist.

“They have a camera when you blink, they have a camera when you breathe, they have a camera when you drive during Lebo (Lebanese),” he said.

His good-natured video tickled viewers.

One agreed with him on the revenue-generating aspect of the Meccano set, saying “Right here I got my fine.”

Before it became a lucrative window cleaning business, other businessmen made money there.

“I remember there was a lady selling roses there in the late 1990s,” said one commenter.
