Tasmanian boarding school for the homeless and children living in appalling conditions in New Town, Hobart

Shocking footage has emerged of horrific conditions at a guest house, so appalling that vulnerable locals would rather sleep on the street or in a tent.
Flint House is a privately owned crisis guesthouse in north Hobart where displaced residents of all ages, from the elderly to families with young children, pay up to $450 a fortnight for a place to sleep.
Alison Dunning had family members with children there and was so disgusted with the conditions that she filmed a tour of the facility, now known as New Town Accommodation.
The three-minute clip is every landlord’s worst nightmare, as the premises are covered in mold and graffiti, while the living areas are littered with trash, torn furniture, broken fixtures, general clutter and discarded items, including clothes and toys.
A tour of the “updated” shared bathrooms reveals broken toilets filled with feces, dirty shower stalls, sinks overflowing, cracked tiles, and a used syringe lying on the floor with underwear and towels.

The bedrooms are also in livable condition with the furniture turned upside down and the floor covered with discarded belongings and rubbish.
“This is the situation that children and adults have to live in,” begins Mrs. Dunning as she enters the premises.
“How are children, let alone adults, supposed to live in this situation! There’s a lot to show.’.
Ms Dunning is heard gagging repeatedly within moments of entering the building.
‘Oh my god it stinks guys, it’s really bad. I’ve never seen anyone sane,’ she said
‘Okay, I’m getting out of there.’
Ms. Dunning made the choice between life on the road and Flint House easy.
“This is not suitable for any human being, in any way,” she said.
I’ve never been so disgusted. I was homeless and will stay on the streets – don’t go to Flint House.”

“How’s that good enough for kids? No women or children or anything should live in this building.
“It’s an obviously empty room, but I wouldn’t sleep in it, I’d sleep in a tent.”
She urged the authorities to intervene, claiming there were children living under the care of the Child Safety Service.
“No one is safe here, the Tasmania Government knows about this house and knows what’s going on at the Flint House,” she captioned the video.
“We also need to do something about this so that the homeless can live in a clean, safe environment.”

The video posted on TikTok has since gone viral, sparking widespread outrage.
‘Oh my goodness! That’s disgusting!’ a woman posted.
Viewers were divided on whether the owners or local residents were responsible.
“This is so disgraceful and disgusting but if people live there they should try to clean it up as best they can,” one commented.
Another added: “If the residents have cleaned up after themselves and respected the place, the owners may be willing to fix and maintain the place. But if it’s just constantly being damaged, disregarded, etc., then what’s the point!?’

Alison Dunning has urged the Tasmanian Government to intervene despite the privately owned guest house (cracked bathroom tiles pictured).
The comments shared led to a response from Ms Dunning.
“I expect the people who overpay also live in this place to have a much better, cleaner environment. I expect the owners to be able to help them as well,” she wrote.
Daily Mail Australia has reached out to New Town Accommodation for comment.
The facility is described online as a “crisis shelter with individual rooms, free Wi-Fi and continental breakfast, with ‘upgraded’ shared bathrooms and access to an industrial kitchen and cooking areas.
A spokesman for Tasmania’s housing minister told The Mercury the government could not comment as the premises are privately owned.
Flint House was last sold for almost $1.115 million three years ago.
