A fight has broken out between a teacher and his students, sparking an investigation by the police and the Ministry of Education.
Officers were called to Maitland Grossmann High School, northwest of Newcastle, around 2pm on Tuesday with the entire incident being captured on video.
Footage of the disturbing fight, captured by several students, shows tensions flaring up after crumpled balls of paper are tossed across the classroom.
The teacher can be seen throwing the paper balls back at a student at close range before saying “Come on buddy” and grabbing his collar.
He then proceeds to drag the student across his desk, prompting an immediate reaction from other students who stand up and attempt to intervene.
A boy pushes the teacher away and yells, “Are you fucking touching him?”.
The teacher is then heard telling his students to put their phones down before they start yelling at him.
The situation heats up even more when a desk is thrown at the teacher as the school bell rings and several terrified students rush to the door.
Students involved in the conflict continue to yell at the teacher as they leave.
“Piss off,” the teacher can be heard saying.
“Fuck off, you’re touching children,” replies one student.
The student, who was grabbed earlier, is then seen slapping the teacher’s hand away, further flaring up tension.
The teacher then pushes the teen through a turd and onto a blackboard in front of the class.
Footage appears to show the teacher twisting his arm back and hitting the student while he is lying on the floor.
“Are you damn stupid?” someone shouts stupidly.
The teacher then stands in the door and says: “Who wants to join in?”.
