Tears of the Kingdom is said to be the final major release for Nintendo Switch

Could Nintendo be looking forward to new hardware after The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

As reported by GamesRadarTwo reporters on Twitter have suggested that the upcoming Breath of the Wild sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, could be the last “significant” first-party release Nintendo will release on the Nintendo Switch.

GamesIndustry.biz reporter Chris Dring took to Twitter in November to reply to a user, saying that Nintendo “hasn’t had a significant game in a while” according to its sources after Tears of the Kingdom.

VGC’s Andy Robinson said in late December that Tears of the Kingdom could be the last first-party game on the Nintendo Switch in 2024 due to predictions and rumors of new hardware.

“From what I’m hearing, I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo started talking about new hardware by 2024. I’m not convinced any major first-party game other than Zelda will remain on Switch (usual Nintendo prediction caveats apply…)”

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is scheduled for release on May 12, 2023. Pikmin 4 aside, there’s little else this year in terms of new first-party titles heading to Switch. A few remasters will be on the way, like Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe and Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, but most of the big hitters will come from third-party developers.
