The 22-year-old man is accused of murdering 26-year-old beautician Elle Edwards, who was shot dead on Christmas Eve

Detectives have charged a man with the murder of Elle Edwards in Wallasey on Christmas Eve.

Ms Edwards, 26, was celebrating Christmas at the Lighthouse Inn in Wallasey, a village near Liverpool, with her sister and friends when she was shot in the head around 11.50pm.

She was killed by a gunman after becoming involved in an alleged feud between drug gangs.

Police said the young beautician was not the intended target of the shots, which were fired as part of a revenge attack gone awry.

Connor Chapman, 22, of Houghton Road, Woodchurch, has also been charged with two counts of attempted murder and three counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of ammunition with intentional endangering of life and receiving stolen goods, namely a Mercedes A-Class.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at the Wirral Adult Coroner’s Court today, Friday 13 January.

A 23-year-old woman, who was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to a perpetrator, has been released on bail pending further investigation.

“While there is a lot of work being done by our dedicated teams at Merseyside Police and much information has been received, I would urge anyone who has information and has yet to come forward to do so.

“If you do not wish to speak directly to the police, please contact Crimestoppers where information can be shared confidentially.”

Three people had already been arrested in connection with the murder investigation.

Taking to Instagram to share a series of photos and videos of her sister, Lucy wrote: “Missing you so much sis. Elle May, you are and always will be my best friend, side kick, accomplice, soul mate and big sister.

“You are beautiful inside and out, you are the kindest person ever and you only wanted the best for me.

“I miss everything about you especially our daily meetups, our long drives, we pumped up the music and sang so loud people laughed at us in traffic but we were always in our own bubble and we didn’t Care.’
