Australian netball veteran Ash Brazill’s World Cup medal was recently turned up at her son’s school – and she only found out about it when a teacher contacted her wife.
Brazill, 33, who played netball for the Diamonds and still plays football for Collingwood in the AFLW, recently returned from the Netball World Cup in Cape Town with a fairytale end to her netball career.
The Australians beat England 61-45 in the final to win a record 12th title – and Brazill subsequently announced her retirement from the sport.
However, the dual-code athlete barely glanced at her Diamonds World Cup medal, which somehow ended up in her son Louis’ bag at kindergarten.
On Monday, she posted on Instagram the message her wife Brooke received from his teacher.

The medal ended up in her son Louis’ kindergarten – and Brazill’s wife was notified by a teacher
“Hello Brooke,” the email began. “That afternoon, when we picked up the bags, I discovered Ash’s World Championship medal in Louis’ bag.
“I wasn’t sure if you knew he had her medal in her bag. Just in case.’
Brazill published the email with the caption: “Louis finds treasures in the house.”
The first openly gay netballer said she hopes she can inspire young girls with big dreams.
“Judge me by my abilities — not by my sexuality, not by the fact that I’m a tomboy, not a country kid,” Brazill said News Corp after the World Cup.
“I hope that I’m here (a world champion) and every kid thinks that no matter who you are or where you come from, you can do this.”
Now that Brazill can focus on playing soccer, she is curious about what she can achieve.
“I really want to see what I can do with just one year of playing soccer,” she said.

Brazil has now retired from netball and will focus on her career in the AFLW
“Every year I have become a netballer, which has worked for me, but it will be interesting to see – does my body shape change, my endurance level, what does that look like?”
“Netball was always my alter ego, football was just fun.”
