The British mum reveals the shocking cost of a day trip for a family of four to Universal Studios in Florida

A British mother-of-two has gone viral with a video revealing the exact amount her family spent during a day at Universal Studios in Florida.

Miranda Pearce, a marketing coach based out of Sandbach, Cheshire, revealed that the family spent a total of $1,113 or the equivalent of $966 on the day, including $483 on tickets, $396 on Fast Passes and $62.79 US dollars for lunch.

The revelation divided opinion, with some viewers insisting the park had “shorn” them and others insisting there are easy ways to save money, such as by bringing your own food and drink.

Sharing the video, Miranda said, “Guess how much we spent in one day at Universal Studios Florida — wait for the end, you won’t believe it.”

Total cost for the day was $1113.40, which included “no tips”.

The day started with an expensive $21.79 breakfast at Wendy’s Drive Thru, followed by some pricey $27 parking. As the fun fest continued, so did the costs – prompting the mum to share her experience on social media.

Miranda shows a clip of her son having a drink and says, “This is us getting a $19 refillable drink.”

She then met King Julian from the film Madagascar, whom she calls her absolute “hero” – so despite the expense, the family still seemed to be having fun.

However, they ended up paying $42.60 for a basic souvenir, a Harry Potter notepad and pen, $62.79 for a burger and fries lunch, and $19.76 for some ice cream.

She said in the video, “I got a $4.25 coffee in the afternoon and we got a not-too-bad $34 dinner at Burger King.”

Her rationale for the quick passes was, “I don’t wait in line with a six-year-old,” before asking her audience, “Would you have paid for that?”

Many agreed the prices were high, with one person claiming they paid less for 14 days at Disneyland.

They said, “14 days at Disney a few weeks ago and spent just over $1,000 in total! Backpack, bottles, snacks, Walmart supplies. Mainly to save waiting times!’

Another chimed in: “They absolutely fleece their guests.”

One person said when they went to Universal Studios in 2017 the prices were much lower at $200 per ticket.

One woman admitted to saving for the day with her partner, saying: “Me and my other half are starting an Orlando fund to house our two kids, but I’m afraid no matter how much we save we’re just going to have it ourselves can not afford.

The video has garnered over 19,000 views and 1,492 comments so far, with people divided over the clip. Some agree with Miranda, while others offer advice on how to make the trip more affordable. One person said they “could have gone away for a week and rented a villa in Portugal”.

More experienced viewers responded to the video with advice such as “bring your own snacks and drinks” and “skip the fast-track tickets,” for which Miranda thanked.

Others, however, were more dismissive of the video, with one TikToker saying, “You could get a villa in Portugal for that.”

Another said: “Then you don’t worry about your electricity bills?”

One said: “Why not? I got fast passes and had a great time there.’
