The Chinese megastar-actress denies abusing two children born to a Colorado surrogate

A US-based renowned Chinese actress has denied molesting her two children, who were born to a surrogate mother in Colorado, after telling her ex-husband, the producer, that she wanted to have an abortion after their split , while her surrogate was still pregnant.

Shuang Zheng, 31, is considered a megastar actress in her homeland after starring in the film Meteor Shower, while Heng Zhang is one of the country’s most famous reality TV producers.

The couple exchanged vows in America in January 2019 before welcoming a son and daughter as surrogate mothers in December of that year and January 2020.

Surrogacy is banned in China, but traveling abroad to have surrogate children has increasingly become an option for some Chinese couples, particularly wealthy ones.

But two months before the birth of their children, the couple had separated. Zhang later revealed that his ex-partner wanted to abort their children despite his offer to raise them as a single father.

“I told her I understand because you’re a celebrity and you don’t want anyone to know you have a baby on loan in the United States,” he said.

The producer claimed that Zheng left her two children after their separation at the age of two and does not want to sign legal papers that would allow the children to travel to China.

Zheng denied the allegations, instead claiming that Zhang cheated on her in September 2019. She eventually returned to China alone while Zhang settled in Denver with his parents and children.

A custody battle was then secured. In 2020, Zheng filed for custody after Zhang claimed she left family in America.

The fertility clinic where Zheng worked claims she is owed $68,000 for the successful surrogacy, according to Today Online. The clinic also approved Zheng’s request to terminate the pregnancies at the seventh month, which was denied.

The clinic further claimed that the actress wanted to arrange monthly payments to have her children raised in the US rather than bring them back to China.

However, these claims are not as serious as Zheng’s recent allegation in Denver District Court after noticing bruises on his children.

“In the last six months, both of my children were very badly injured while staying with my ex-girlfriend,” Zhang told CBS News, adding that his daughter had to have stitches on one of her fingers, while his young son apparently had one burned under his nose.

The producer went on to reveal that his ex-partner’s accounts of the injuries are conflicting and that his children have become more and more afraid of their mother over time.

“My son was so struggling, ‘No, don’t go, dad. Let’s go home. I’m afraid. I’m scared of mom and crying,” Zhang said. “That’s why I called child protective services because they told me mom did it.”

The single father added that the child protection service’s failure to investigate his claims prompted him to speak out.

“I want everyone who lives in Colorado to know this story. The reason we have the child protection department is that we want to protect our children before they get hurt, not after they get hurt the department started investigating, it’s too late,” Zhang said.

Zheng’s attorneys Martha Timmers and Sherman & Howard’s Madeleine Rosengrant have denied those claims.

Meanwhile, Zheng was found guilty of approximately $2.3 million in tax evasion in 2021.

In connection with her surrogacy scandal, she was listed as a “misbehaving actor” by Chinese state regulators and was therefore blacklisted and banned from public appearances, with all existing public activities related to her career in the entertainment industry having to be canceled .

In January 2021, it was announced that Italian luxury label Prada had cut ties with the actress, according to Reuters.
