The FBI is raiding the Maine home of 19-year-old Trevor Bickford after assaulting three NYPD officers near Times Square

The FBI has searched the home of the teenager who allegedly struck and injured three New York police officers with a machete on New Year’s Eve near Times Square.

Online footage shows the moment FBI officers entered Trevor Bickford’s home on Alpine Drive in Wells, Maine, on Sunday.

Just a day earlier, the 19-year-old, who appeared to be a typical all-American teenager before allegedly radicalizing himself into Islam, committed the killings in one of New York’s most popular tourist areas.

Before the attack on New Year’s Eve, however, Bickford had was an honors student, won awards for his artwork, and was a member of his hometown soccer team.

Several vehicles belonging to FBI officials have been parked in the home’s driveway while the teenager remains in custody

But after his father died of a drug overdose in 2018, Bickford’s life is believed to have been thrown into turmoil.

When Bickford drove alone to New York City in an Amtrak this weekend to the alleged attacks, the teenager was reportedly already on the FBI’s radar.

He was on the FBI’s terror watch list and had told his aunt that he planned to travel to Afghanistan to fight, New York Post sources said.

On Saturday night, Bickford allegedly attacked two NYPD cops on Eighth Avenue between 51st and 52nd Streets just outside of Times Square, where thousands of revelers were ringing in the New Year.

Another officer shot Bickford, hitting him in the shoulder. He remains hospitalized at Bellevue and charges are pending.

Bickford has no criminal record according to a preliminary investigation, but police sources say the Boston Bureau has an open case against him.

Authorities have told NBC they are investigating whether the suspect previously posted so-called jihadist writings online and then traveled to New York City to attack police.

Photos posted to Facebook show Bickford at various times in his life, many with his two brothers, Devin and Travis.

There are photos of him playing football with the Wells High School Warriors football team, singing in the choir and marching with the color guard.

As recently as 2020, he was among a group of students who won awards for their artwork. Bickford won for his work in jewelry, Seacoastonline reported at the time.

Before his death in 2018 – allegedly from a drug overdose – his father Thomas Bickford proudly posted photos of his sons and their accomplishments.

Family and friends were quick to praise the boys and their bright future. Bickford’s father died at the age of 41, according to his obituary.

His parents Thomas and Audra D’Antilio were married on September 9, 2001 and raised three sons, Devin, Trevor and Travis in Wells, Maine.

According to the obituary, the family patriarch was often there to coach her in football and wrestling.

It also said he was sometimes hard on his sons about his coaching style, but “he loved his boys more than anything”.

Bickford’s mother, Audra D’Antilio, who eventually remarried, also has a slew of photos on her Facebook page in which she gushed over her son, calling him an “old soul” and writing that she feels lucky to be his mother be.

On July 28, she shared a photo of Bickford celebrating his 19th birthday and wrote, “Happy 19th birthday Trevor. So proud and happy to call you my son.

“You are an old soul and you surprise me every day with everything you love to explore and do. I love that you are not afraid to try new things and you truly are the best brother ever. I’m so incredibly proud of the man you’re becoming, I love you.”

Just six months later, Bickford is accused of assaulting NYPD officers. Bickford and the cops are all at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, where everyone is expected to survive.

The attack happened just outside the high-security zone, where thousands of revelers were being screened for weapons as they prepared to ring 2023.

An investigation was underway to determine a motive for the attack, but authorities said they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public.

Michael Driscoll, deputy director of the FBI’s New York field office, said they believe the attacker acted alone.

Authorities have told NBC they are investigating whether the suspect previously posted so-called jihadist writings online and then traveled to New York City to attack police.

Sources told the New York Post that Bickford is packing camping gear, a journal and a last will for his trip to Manhattan for the attacks.

The beatings happened just outside the security zone in Times Square, where thousands gathered for the annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. Police checked revelers for contraband such as alcohol, large bags and weapons.

Crime scene video shows revelers being herded out of the scene by cops trying to patrol the scene at 52nd Street and 8th Avenue. Officers can be seen yelling at pedestrians to move away from the scene.

The NYPD conducts a massive security operation every year to protect the New Year’s Eve crowds. Thousands of officers are stationed in the region, including many new recruits to the force.

The blocks where the largest crowds gather to watch performances and the Midnight Ball can only be reached via checkpoints where officers use metal detectors to search for weapons. ‘

Large bags and cool boxes are prohibited. Barriers are erected to prevent vehicle attacks in the secured area.

However, the security perimeter can only reach so far. The attack took place on 8th Avenue, which is often filled with dense crowds navigating the frozen zone or trying to find one of the safe entrances.
