The Irish-born superstar racehorse storms into early Melbourne Cup favorites after stunning victory in Queensland
- His win at Eagle Farm was amazing
- His Australian coach has a successful Melbourne Cup pedigree
- He is also the favorite for the Cox Plate
Some people may suspect it’s still a bit early for Gr 1 Melbourne Cup betting, but on Saturday bookmakers saw enough talent at Queensland’s Eagle Farm racecourse to create a new favourite.
The nation-stopping 3,200-meter race will be held in Flemington on November 7 and is worth $8 million this year.
And after a big Eagle Farm race on Saturday, Irish stayer Without A Fight, who started his career in England and has now won two out of three races here in Australia, has the bookies in a frenzy.
Saturday’s race was the $1.2 million Q22 Stakes 2200m race.
He came into the corner from 11th with such a powerful burst of speed that he gobbled up a crack field and sped away to take the win by two lengths over Nonconformist, Caulfield Cup finishers in Group 1 and winners of the Australian Cup, Duais to get hold of.

Champion rider Mark Zahra elevates the 2022 Melbourne Cup he won on Gold Trip and is now hoping for a second Cup win as a regular rider for rising stars Without A Fight
The win got a reaction from all bookies and he is now the favorite in the $12 cup.
“We’re looking at a star.” He’s a real star, Without A Fight. What a brilliant win,” said course commentator Josh Fleming.
And his words were backed up by legendary color race commentator and professional player Ron Dufficy.
“I don’t know exactly what we’re seeing, but he’s very special.”
Without A Fight arrived in Australia in September last year after making 18 career starts in England where he reached Group 2 level.
Last year he competed in the Melbourne Cup but only finished 13th.
Saturday’s Brisbane ‘The Without A Fight’ is a very different and much, much more mature gallop.
He is coached by Anthony and Sam Freedman. Anthony was with his brother Lee when they won the Melbourne Cup with champion Makybe Diva a year ago.
Not only did Without A Fight break through to an early favorite win in the Melbourne Cup, but they have also established themselves as favorites for WFA’s highest-paying race, the $7m Cox Plate, and are 2nd favorites for the Gr 1 Caulfield Cup – both races take place in October.
Victorian standout Mark Zahra, who led Gold Trip to victory in the Melbourne Cup last year, was in Saturday’s Without A Fight.
