The most anticipated video game releases in 2023

2023 is shaping up to be a big year for video games. Here are some of the most anticipated titles set to be released throughout 2023.

Last year brought us some big hits, including Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarök, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. And while these titles have kept us entertained and engaged throughout 2022, this new year looks even bigger.

Brand new releases from Nintendo, Square Enix, Bethesda and others will make 2023 full of games. Here are some of the most anticipated video game releases coming this year.

Bethesda’s upcoming RPG Starfield is arguably the most anticipated game to be released in 2023. With over 1,000 planets to explore, this new IP could also be the most ambitious title of the year. Starfield was originally scheduled for release in November 2022 but was delayed until sometime in the first half of 2023. Neither Microsoft nor Bethesda have given a new, official release date for this PC and Xbox exclusive, so keep an eye out for this space.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is Nintendo’s sequel to Breath of the Wild, one of the best games for Nintendo Switch. Following the announcement in 2019, Tears of the Kingdom won Most Anticipated Game at The Game Awards three years in a row. The game is now set to release on the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.

Square Enix’s tentpole franchise is getting its next installment later this year. Produced by Final Fantasy XIV’s Naoki Yoshida, Final Fantasy XVI follows the story of Clive Rosfield in pursuit of the sinister Eikon Ifrit after the destruction of his home kingdom. The game is slated for release on June 22, 2023 for PlayStation 5.

A remake of one of Capcom’s most popular Resident Evil entries. Resident Evil 4 lets us relive Leon S. Kennedy’s nightmare with Las Plagas on his mission to rescue Ashley Graham. This remake is upgraded with better graphics, improved character designs, and an overall more tense atmosphere. Resident Evil 4 will be released on March 24th, 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

As a sequel to the 2018 release of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Bryan Intihar and Ryan Smith return as creative directors and game directors, respectively. While little has been announced about this upcoming sequel, the game is set to release for the PlayStation 5 in Fall 2023.

Harry Potter fans have been waiting for years for a deep game set in the Wizarding World universe. In Hogwarts Legacy, players create their own student, choose their house and attend classes at Hogwarts. The game was originally scheduled for release in 2021 but has since been delayed twice. First until 2022 and then until February 10th, release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Hogwarts Legacy will also be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in April. 4 and on the Nintendo Switch on July 25th.

Respawn Entertainment’s follow-up to Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor returns to the original character Cal Kestis after completing his Jedi training, during which he was hunted by the Imperial Inquisitors. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is slated for release on March 17, 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Another remake set to grace early in its run in 2023 is the Dead Space remake. Developed by Motive Studio and published by EA, we visit the protagonist Isaac Clarke in his very first nightmare, set on the USG Ishimura. Dead Space stays true to its iconic atmosphere but is updated for modern systems, releasing January 27th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Forspoken, a brand new IP from Square Enix developed by Luminous Productions, introduces us to the story of Frey Holland, transported from New York City to the fantasy world of Athia. Armed with new magical powers, Frey Athia must survive under the tyrannical rule of the tantas and find her way home. Forspoken is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and PC on January 24th.

Blizzard’s new addition to the Diablo franchise, Diablo IV was announced back in 2019, but its release is finally on the horizon. The dark fantasy world of Diablo IV is scheduled for release on June 6th, 2023 and will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
