A group of hooded neo-Nazis have posted a photo of themselves giving a “fascist salute” in front of the Adelaide Holocaust Museum.

The National Socialist Network was behind the heinous social media stunt, which anti-hate groups have described as “cruel” and “ugly.”

The picture, which shows seven men, is captioned: “Why there is a Holocaust museum in Adelaide is unclear”.

“Extremist groups are active and organizing in online spaces,” museum director Kathy Baykitch told The Advertiser.

“These disgusting acts of racist vandalism highlight the importance of supporting the education of young people through our programs.”

She said the museum and its educational programs are a counterpoint to “hateful ideologies.”

dr Dvir Abramovich of the Anti-Defamation Commission said hate contagion was “out of control” in some parts of Australia.

“It wasn’t just a Heil Hitler salute — it’s a frontal attack on our values, and when that kind of cruel ugliness is in full display it reminds us that there are die-hard zealots among us,” he said.

The incident follows a series of far-right gatherings in Australia in recent years.

In June, the far-right group European Australian Movement - which is linked to the neo-Nazi Nationalist Socialist Network - waved its flag in front of parents and their young children in Hunter Park, Mosman, on Sydney's north coast (pictured).

The group were seen walking around a portable grill before a man who appeared to be the group’s leader said: “Ok we have to do this, let’s get this done,” the Mosman Collective reported.

They then pulled out a neo-Nazi flag and held it up while the only woman in the group took photos.

2GB radio host Ben Fordham commented on the incident at the time, describing the group as “pies and maniacs”.

In 2020, the Nationalist Socialist Network dressed in black with their faces covered and performed the Nazi salute at Melbourne’s Swinburne University of Technology.

They posted the picture on Russian social media network VK with the caption “Swinburne for the White Man.”

It thanked “the student body and faculty” for allowing them to come to campus to advance their far-right agenda “without resistance.”
