New mum blasted for piercing daughter’s ears in hospital: ‘Wait until she can decide’
- A new mom has been criticized for piercing her daughter’s ears when she was one day old
- The newborn baby was seen in the hospital wearing a pair of flower earrings
- On TikTok, her fans felt it was too early to create holes
- But the mother replied that her daughter hardly reacted to the piercing
A young mother has come under fire for pricking her newborn daughter’s ears after just a day in hospital. Many parents tell them to wait until the child is old enough to make the decision themselves.
The mother, who posts on TikTok under her daughter’s name – Lara – shared an innocent video of her little girl compared to her now three-month-old just hours after she was born.
The adorable child had a tiny flower earring featured in footage of her first 24 hours on Earth and it caused a loud explosion in the comments section below.
But others defended the decision, saying it was common in some cultures to pierce the ears of young girls early in life.
“Maybe it’s just me, but the day my kids were born, ear piercing was at the bottom of my list of concerns,” said one woman.

“Wow, that’s another level for me… I just can’t understand it. And it hurts just as much as it does when you get old! Don’t kid yourself,’ said another.
A third added: “Why shouldn’t they have the choice to have their ears pierced or not? I will let my babies decide when they understand these things.’
While it’s not known where Lara and her mother live, it’s probably not Australia, as she confirmed it was the hospital’s neonatologists who “pierced Lara’s ears”.
“When they are 2-3 days old, they don’t feel pain like a year or two!” She wrote.
“The holes are inserted into them by neonatologists (doctors who specialize in the care of newborn babies) in the hospital at birth.”

The mother claimed that babies’ earlobes are softer when they are very young and her daughter did not feel any more pain, in fact she “didn’t even react”.
Others agreed that piercing the ears of young girls as infants was common.
“In my country, they pierce little girls the first day they are born,” replied one woman.
“I love how she got her ears pierced! Honestly, I would do the same,” said another.
A third added: “Love the earrings <3 Great job mum and congratulations. Ignore all the hate.
