The NSW Swifts and Adelaide Thunderbird Super Netball clash has been called off after absurd courtroom drama

From slippery on-pitch ads and fans igniting the game with their phones to an eventually aborted clash: In the most bizarre Super Netball game ever
- Court dramas will result in the game being abandoned
- Fans must light up the stadium with phones
- Match amazingly declared a draw
The Adelaide Thunderbirds’ clash with the NSW Swifts on Saturday was called off due to technical problems following the most bizarre scenes ever seen in a Super Netball game.
The game was amazingly declared a 25-25 draw after the court surface was processed and a 20 minute power outage forced the game to end early.
The drama began before the game when the pitch was declared unsafe to play due to slippery decals at the Netball SA Stadium in Adelaide, delaying the game by an hour.
The signage stickers were then removed and the course washed and polished before play was allowed to begin.
When the game started, the Swifts led 16-12 at quartertime, but the Thunderbirds fought back and tied the scores 25-25 by halftime.

A potentially intriguing second-half battle did not materialize as a power outage prevented play from continuing and being completed in time.
Fans were stunned when the lights went out, with many holding up torches on their phones to try to keep the venue lit.
Both teams got two points.
Angry fans took to social media to react to the chaotic scenes.
“This is a ridiculous result for a professional sports league,” commented one Twitter user.
“This whole situation is rubbish. This is a professional netball league. Where are the norms? The players and fans deserve better,” said another.
“All the years I’ve watched netball. I saw a game being canceled due to power failure. Too bad it wasn’t done yet as it looked like a cracker second half,” said a third.
It’s not clear why the stickers were removed so late, given that both teams had been training on the pitch in the 24 hours leading up to the game.

Thunderbirds, who won their opening round game, moved up to six points while Swifts collected their first two points of the campaign after losing to Collingwood last time out
“It’s just really disappointing and very unfortunate circumstances tonight that a power outage hit us,” Netball Australia head of integrity Nicole Malcher told Fox Sports.
“This morning we had to postpone the game (because of the unsafe surface)… we extended it to allow the game to finish in the 120 minutes.
“Because we extended it to that time, we don’t have enough time to complete it within the session window (after the blackout) so we have to explain the game at half-time.”

“To have a tie and not have an opportunity to win the game is really sad,” Swifts shooter Helen Housby told Fox Sports. “There was some emotion in the dressing room.
“It’s a short season and every single point counts, so we know we’re probably missing a few points there.”
Adelaide, who lost captain Hannah Petty in the first quarter with a twisted ankle, had the momentum going into half-time, beating the visitors 6-1 in the final four minutes.
“If we had played the game to the end, the Thunderbirds would have had an opportunity to win,” Jamaica international goalkeeper Shamera Sterling told Fox Sports.
“It’s a shame we had to share the four points.”
Adelaide’s England marksman Eleanor Cardwell made all 13 of her attempts, including three two-point shots, with Thunderbirds shooting 92 percent and Swifts 76 percent.
