The radio presenter and Channel Seven star’s heartbreaking post as his wife dies after her battle with cancer

A Queensland radio star suffered the heartbreaking loss of his wife Julianne on Wednesday after she lost her battle with cancer.

Bill McDonald was devastated by the loss and took time off from his new job as Ray Hadley’s Brisbane 4BC radio replacement.

The couple’s eldest son, Jordan, was unable to comment on the heartbreaking death of his 54-year-old wife and shared the tragic announcement on Facebook.

“On behalf of the McDonald family, it is with deep sadness that we announce my mother’s passing early this morning after a courageous battle with cancer,” he wrote.

“We love you and will miss you very much.”

Alongside the sad tribute was a tear-jerking picture of Jordan holding his mother’s hand as she lay in her hospital bed.

Bill’s colleague Gary Hardgrave represented him at work and informed 4BC listeners of the tragic news.

“Gary Hardgrave is sitting here this morning for Bill McDonald.” “Look, I have some sad news to share with the 4BC listeners this morning,” he began.

Gary further explained the situation, sharing Jordan’s Facebook post before adding: “We are thinking of Bill and his four sons at this terrible and difficult time.”

Bill and Julianne had sons Jordan, Hamish, William and James in a fruitful 30-year marriage.

The former Channel Seven newsreader recently took over the radio post from Ray Hadley after the veteran’s popular morning show was axed after eight years.

“On behalf of the McDonald family, it is with great sadness that we announce that my mother passed away early this morning after a courageous battle with cancer.” “We love you and will miss you very much,” Jordan said

Bill, former presenter of 4BC Weekends, was immediately appointed as the new weekday presenter from 9am to 12pm.

The surprise move took effect immediately in September, and Bill officially took over the seat on September 18th.

This is despite Hadley’s Morning being 4BC’s highest-rated show, with more than 7 per cent of viewers in the latest ratings.

Max Dudley, content manager at 4BC, said the move was based on a local content strategy.
