The two-year-old Great Dane gives birth to 21 puppies in 27 hours

A Great Dane has shocked dog lovers when she gave birth to a huge litter of 21 puppies during a 27-hour labour.

The two-year-old pooch, named Namine, knocked over her owner, Tanya Dubbs, of Pocahontas, Virginia after she gave birth to 21 puppies.

Although Tanya had expected the big dog to have around 13 or 14 puppies, she never imagined that he would give birth to almost two dozen.

It took Namine more than a day to deliver her 21 babies, but sadly two of them died shortly after birth.

Proud dog mom Tanya Dubbs of Pocahontas, Virginia bragged about Namine and how strong the big dog was

It took Namine over a day to deliver her 21 babies, but two of them sadly died shortly after birth

Speaking to WWVA, Tanya said: “Of all her puppies, all but two weighed over a pound.

“One was 0.94 ounces and the other was 0.98 ounces. The next day I weighed them and they all gained between two and five ounces.’

The dog owner knew her Great Dane would have many puppies, but hadn’t counted on 21.

Tanya explained that she thought Namine would be “13 or 14,” but then when her dog gave birth to 16 and then another, she knew she wasn’t done.

“I was sitting on the bed and she was on the bed with me and I was talking to a friend of mine and I heard a gush of liquid and I looked over and said we have another puppy,” Tanya told the outlet.

The dog mom explained that she will sell the puppies as soon as they are weaned from Namine in a few weeks.

She added that the money she makes from the first puppy sold will go to the Tazewell County Animal Shelter.

According to the American Kennel Club, Great Danes are known to be one of the largest dog breeds. They often weigh between 99 and 200 pounds and stand two to three feet tall.

The average dog litter size ranges from one to 12 puppies, with larger breeds having more.

In 2004, a Neapolitan mastiff named Tia had 24 puppies and currently holds the Guinness World Record for largest litter.

Tanya also revealed that Namine got out of the house last year and was injured.

She revealed the big dog’s eye was gouged and she had a scar on her side.

Tanya said, ‘She’s still here, we have our girl back.’
