The USA was eliminated from the Basketball World Cup after losing to Germany 113-111 in the semifinals.

The Americans trailed Germany by as much as 12 seconds in the fourth quarter, but cut the German lead to just one with 1:35 left.

But a three-pointer from Andreas Obst on the next possession gave the Germans a four-point lead that they ultimately refused to relinquish.

Anthony Edwards led the Americans with 23 points, while Austin Reaves added 21 and Mikal Bridges 17.

Germany lost 6-0 to the Americans at the World Cup or the Olympic Games on Friday.

A 35-24 third quarter was essentially the difference for Germany, which this time did the job it couldn’t do when it faced the Americans in Abu Dhabi at a tournament earlier this summer.

It was the Americans’ second loss of the tournament, having lost to Lithuania in the group stage after clinching a spot in the knockout round.

The USA will face Canada in the game for third place on Sunday.
