A family parrot has scared away potential intruders by letting out a series of terrifying squeals after hearing a window being smashed.
The blue and yellow macaw named Versace was in her cage at the Kavanagh family home in Mickleham, north of Melbourne, as they celebrated New Year’s Eve.
A surveillance camera pointed at Versace captured the moment a would-be intruder attempted to enter, before the bird let out a series of screams.

A family parrot, Versace (pictured), has foiled a possible New Year’s Eve home invasion in north Melbourne after she yelled at intruders when she heard a window smash
The family had already left home to attend a New Year’s Eve celebration.
It was the first time they had left their pet parrot, who was almost three years old, at home alone.
Versace is already shrieking nervously when the intruders smash the glass window in the room.
She clutches the side of the cage as her screams grow louder, prompting the intruders to flee, leaving a crowbar and large screwdriver in the backyard.
‘[The] the best guard dog we’ve ever bought,” owner Alexandra Kavanagh told 9News.
Versace’s bravery came at a price, as she was reportedly so devastated by the incident that she didn’t want to leave her cage for hours after the family returned.
“Eventually she did and I kissed her forever,” Ms Kavanagh said.
“I haven’t let her go since.”

Versace’s owners, the Kavanaughs (pictured with Versace), had left Versace for the first time to celebrate New Year’s Eve and plan to shower the macaw with treats to protect themselves
Grateful for their crime-stopping bird, the Kavanaghs treat Versace to their favorite treats and toys to save their home.
Ms Kavanagh said the heroic bird “doesn’t mind a bit of KFC” and eats chicken and chips as treats.
