Thrifty blogger shares how to grow fresh mint from a supermarket pack

Thrifty blogger reveals how to grow fresh mint from the supermarket into a plentiful supply in six weeks

A woman has revealed how to grow your own mint from a supermarket pack so you never have to pay for the herb again.

Jenna from Durham posted the video on TikTok where it garnered more than 550,000 views.

She often makes videos on how to grow different herbs and vegetables and raise awareness about autism.

Jenna said, “So if you’re a big sucker like me, you’re going to have spent money on mints at some point in your life.”

“And I’m here to tell you that you never have to do that again.”

“First, grow out the individual stems and carefully remove the leaves from the underside.

“Leave a few leaves on top.” Put these pieces in some Tupperware, you can use them for tea or cooking later.

“It also freezes super well, no excuses.” We don’t waste food in this household.

“Next, just chop about an inch off the bottom of each stem like you would some flowers.”

“Find a water container and put the stems in it. Please pay attention to how small the stems are there.”

“Anyway, put them on a sunny windowsill and ignore them for about two weeks.”

Then Jenna showed her adorable rabbit Teddy chewing on some mint sticks.

She continued, “So after two weeks we’ve already formed some nice roots, and look at that, that’s at a month — look how many roots there are.”

“And look how big these stems have gotten, there’s so much new growth.”

“These guys are happy on a windowsill, oh just look at that big sexy root.”

Jenna uses an old plastic bottle as a pot and then warned TikTokers against planting mint in the ground.

She says that when planted in the ground, the herb will “take over” your entire garden and you’ll “get tired of the sight of the mint.”

Jenna placed her recycled bottles on a vegetable pallet and said, “Water frequently and enjoy free mint for the rest of your life.”

The video received more than 23,000 likes and hundreds of comments.

One user said, “I made a rookie mistake putting mint in a planter and it literally killed every other herb.”
