Tiger Woods “is going to win another Major,” claims Padraig Harrington

Padraig Harrington has claimed Tiger Woods is not done winning majors despite the icon’s injury woes.

Woods has made just three competitive appearances so far this year, all of which have been at majors, after making a spectacular return to the course 14 months after his horror car crash.

As the golfing legend continues to struggle with the injuries he sustained in the accident, he has recently hinted that he may continue to play only the most prestigious golf events next year.

However, Harrington believes this may be all Woods needs to be victorious again as he claimed the 15-time major champion could win another if he could only reach the last nine holes.

“If you got nine holes into the contest, he’ll be there,” Harrington said at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club ahead of this weekend’s PNC Championship, which Woods is competing with his son Charlie. “The resilience is there. everything about him So I wouldn’t question that part.

“He has trouble walking. Tiger, if you can get him to the last nine holes of a tournament, I think you won’t have a problem.

“And he looked good physically. He looked better that game. I’m not saying he “might be”, I actually think he will be a threat. I think he will win another major. I really think he will be competitive. I’m sure he wishes every tournament he could play if it’s like a major he’ll have a chance.

“You would never drive Tiger away,” Harrington said, drawing on the two hours he spent watching Woods play on a televised 10-hole show last weekend. “But I actually think he’s… in a better place than I thought.

“There are two things that make a golfer — how talented they are and how resilient they are,” Harrington added Thursday after storms washed out the PNC Championship’s Pro-Am.

“Usually you become very talented, not very resilient; or you become very resilient and not very talented. Tiger has had both throughout his career, which is very unusual.

‘So I would never doubt.’

What inspired him to watch 10 holes of play last week was the speed Woods displayed in his swing, which he felt had enough power to rival today’s generation and at least get him to the back nine.

“That little extra speed will help him because in the first 63 holes… you know who would want to go up against Tiger?” said Harrington. “You know he’s capable of anything at this stage. I think he’s in a better position to get into the last nine holes.

Harrington’s beliefs differed greatly from Colin Montgomerie’s as the Scot claimed Woods should have retired at The Open in July.

Woods’ former rival claimed his rise to 18th at St Andrews was the perfect moment for the 15-time major champion to close the curtain on his glittering career.

“That was the time,” Montgomerie told golf website Bunkered. “Stand on the bridge, start waving, and everyone’s like, ‘So, is that it?’ Yes, it is. It would have been a wonderful way.

“The grandstands were full, the television cameras from all over the world – from all continents – were aimed at him, he goes up there alone, tears were in his eyes, of course, this walk is unbeatable.

“I’ve done it myself. When the stands are full, you can’t beat that move. … I’ll tell you what, this is a special, special arena. It’s a theatre. That was Tiger’s time to say, ‘Okay, I’m goodbye.’

“Why continue? Go out upstairs,” Montgomerie added. “It’s something very few can do.”

Woods was involved in a car accident in February 2021 that left him with serious injuries to his right leg and doctors thought it might need amputation, Woods said.

He made the cut at both the Masters and the PGA Championship, but had to pull out of the latter after the third round as he struggled with injuries.

Woods missed the cut by nine shots at The Open, but his walk to the infamous 18th fairway was still an iconic scene.

At the end of his second lap, he didn’t stop on the famous Swilcan Bridge, but he doffed his cap in recognition of the fans and their standing ovations.

Woods was also scheduled to compete in the Hero World Challenge, an event he hosted in the Bahamas earlier this month but withdrew earlier Monday citing plantar fasciitis.

He will also serve at the PNC Championships this weekend with his son Charlie, 13, in their third appearance at the event.
