  • The Italian was suspended for 30 months, but initially only from Italian football
  • FIFA has since confirmed that the suspension has been extended worldwide

Tottenham boss Fabio Paratici has returned to England to face growing uncertainty about his future after being hit with a global football ban.

As Sportsmail revealed yesterday, the embattled Paratici was spending the start of the week in his native Italy and was at home when news of coach Antonio Conte’s departure broke on Sunday night.

The club’s chief football officer, Paratici, was not at Tottenham’s Enfield headquarters on Thursday, but we know Paratici has now returned to the UK.

There has been much confusion over Paratici’s future in north London following the bombastic news on Wednesday that FIFA had suspended the 50-year-old from all football activities over financial irregularities from his time at Juventus.

Paratici often returns to Italy during international breaks and used the last break in Premier League games to fly home.

His return to Italy also coincided with the scheduled start of criminal proceedings in relation to the Juventus case on Monday – which has since been postponed to May 10.

Developments over his future at Spurs are likely to accelerate now that he is back in England, although sources yesterday insisted his return is not ultimately linked to the ban.

Paratici’s continued involvement in Tottenham’s operation was muddled on Wednesday after FIFA extended an original suspension imposed by the Italian Football Federation over alleged financial misconduct from his time at Juve to a worldwide ban.

Tottenham said they had not been notified ahead of FIFA’s announcement on Wednesday morning.

Club officials have spent the last 48 hours figuring out the extent of the restrictions imposed by FIFA.

Paratici’s 30-month ban extends to all football-related activity, administrative, sporting or otherwise, domestically and internationally – but Spurs want clarity on those sanctions.

But as of Thursday night there had been no official confirmation from Tottenham or FIFA on how the ruling would affect Paratici’s role.

Paratici has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing but his future at the club is still very much in doubt now.
