Earlier in the week, McGregor took to Instagram to send a scathing message to UFC fighter Kelvin Gastelum – mocking his latest injury, which has ruled him out of this weekend’s main event against Nassourdine Imavov.

In a story post, McGregor wrote: “This thing is absolute crap. That’s a staph infection on his goddamn face. One hell of a hole omg and it’s his second attempt at a competition like this. wtf! Clean your mats. Wash yourself. Shit, go to the doctor! Scrap metal.’

Staph infections are caused by staph bacteria found on soil, human skin, and inside the nose. UFC fighters are vulnerable to transmission of the disease due to close contact in training.

Gastelum fired back at Notorious on Wednesday night, writing on Twitter: “Relax little goblin. The coke and steroids kick in.”

It’s not the first time McGregor has criticized Gastelum for his struggles with a staph infection. In 2019, ahead of Gastelum’s planned fight with Robert Whittaker, the Irishman labeled him a “worm”.
