University of Wisconsin student, 20, left in alley with life-threatening injuries: Senior suffered a broken jaw after being severely beaten and sexually assaulted by a stranger

Police have launched an investigation after a senior at the University of Wisconsin suffered a broken jaw and serious life-threatening injuries in an early morning attack.

The 20-year-old woman was found between two homes in Madison, Wisconsin, around 3:20 a.m. Sunday. Police said her condition remains critical.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for their “attacker” following the violent incident, and investigators are asking anyone with video footage of the area to come forward.

Due to the incident, investigators have stepped up their patrols in the area, but no arrests have been made so far.

According to WISN-12, friends claimed she was strangled, beaten and sexually assaulted by the random assailant, and sustained a broken jaw.

The university sent out an email about the incident, warning students to “remain vigilant” and “pay attention to their safety and those around them”.

Officers were called to the 500 block of West Wilson Street by a neighbor in the early hours of Sunday morning because their fellow students were “terrified” of another attack.

Neighbors claim the young woman was walking down the street before being forced into an alley between two houses before a homeowner heard her screaming for help.

During a news conference, Madison Deputy Police Commissioner Paige Valenta confirmed they had collected DNA evidence at the crime scene, adding that they had called in multiple resources to investigate the incident.

She said, “My condolences go out to the victim and his family.”

“We have been in touch with our partners in the Madison area, including the UW Police Department, to ensure they are assisted in solving this horrific crime.”

“I want to reassure the victim, family and our community that the police are doing everything they can to hold accountable the person or persons who committed this violent attack.”

“This investigation is currently in the preliminary stages. We called in numerous Madison police officers this holiday weekend to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation.

“The Madison Police Department will be investigating every lead in this investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice in our criminal justice system. Until then, everyone should be vigilant and proactive about their own safety.”

Officials urge locals not to walk around the area alone, especially at night, and to let friends know if you are leaving a location and arriving safely.

Student Abby Lokai said: “I’m usually pretty careful, especially at night, but I definitely tend to be a little tighter on my keys. I usually always have some other people walking with me.” I think that’s the best. “Travel in groups”,

Madison police did not immediately respond to a request from DailyMail.com for an update on the case or the victim’s condition.
