Valorant Patch 6.0: Omen smokes nerfed

Valorant Patch 6.0 gave Omen and his smokers a major nerf.
Riot Games started teasing changes to the game as Episode 5, Act 3 drew to a close. Players have been expecting a new agent with the release of Episode 6 Act 1, but instead one of their controllers will become less powerful.

Riot Games has taken steps to remove Omen’s ability to create one-way games. Now when Dark Cover is placed in a wall, it will fall to the level of the nearby floor. Omen’s smoke can no longer remain in place wherever he throws it.
The nerf eliminates Omen’s advantage over other Controller agents. Without the ability to place smoke over a wall or near other objects and structures, Omen main characters must either adapt a new methodical playstyle for the agent or choose a different controller like Astra or Brimstone.
I understand this change – Riot can’t really control the balance of oneways without it – but I’m hoping that means the map designers add some intentional oneways to balance, since Omen really isn’t in a state that can survive a major nerf without that Astra is simply totally overtaken. https://t.co/3QXPK1dCvV

Sentinels coach Adam “kaplan” Kaplan expressed his concerns about the move. Like others in the community, he worries that Omen will fall out of the meta as the season progresses once his dark cover is toned down.
Riot Games wants to ensure single-use smokers stay in intentional and understandable areas, as opposed to abusive, lucky placements. The developer assured players that this nerf will be monitored for its impact on Omen’s power levels going forward.
