Video of Australia batter losing it and throwing his bat after Mankad was sacked goes viral

Outraged Australian cricketer BLASTS UP as he receives the sport’s most controversial sacking – and hurls all his kit onto the field as he charges away

  • Incident occurred in Tasmania Grand Final
  • The sacking proved costly as his side lost
  • The behavior of both the batsman and the bowler was lashed out

The controversial dismissal of Mankad in cricket has sparked considerable debate across the sport, but there is no doubting how a Tasmanian batsman feels about the tactic.

Jarrod Kaye was sacked during the Tasmanian Southern Cricket Association on the non-strike end [SCA] First class grand final between Claremont and New Norfolk on Saturday and exploded in dramatic fashion.

The Claremont batter chased 263 in the 50-over match and was on track with 43 carries from 55 balls, including three sixes.

However, New Norfolk vice-captain Harry Booth spotted him crawling out of his crease and pulled him up on the run-up, removing the balls and removing him at the non-strikers’ end.

After a brief debriefing between the umpires, Kaye was sent to pack and he charged off the field, hurling his helmet and racquet towards the perimeter while his teammates marched onto the field in protest.

The result proved costly as New Norfolk recorded a win in 59 runs to advance to the Grand Final. Booth played a key role in the win with bat and ball.

“Harry Booth had to get up, which he did. After winning midweek SCA 1st Grade Player of the Year, Harry hit 63 of 84 balls. He hit 7 fours and 1 six and looked great, finding the gap with ease,” the club wrote.

The SCA and New Newfolk Cricket Club have had limited comment on their social media pages after video of the incident went viral with hundreds of thousands of views.

Former Australian and current Melbourne Renegades bowler Cameron Boyce said the actions of both the batsman and bowler were “poor”.

“Both parts of it are sh***! Mankad is garbage. Hadn’t been four inches from his crease so no advantage was taken. But def can’t react like that. Really bad everything,” he tweeted.

Cricket fans were divided, with many blaming the batsman for not staying in his crease before throwing his toys out of the crib.

“Old mate they throw a tantrum and carry on like a pork chop when it’s found out its fold! Memo to old pal – stay in your crease until ball is delivered,” one fan posted.

Others said there was no excuse for the brain explosion.

“It’s important that all players maintain a positive attitude and sportsmanship on the field,” one fan posted.

“That was out and the player should be banned for one game for throwing a tantrum,” said another.

There were also many who defended the batsman, saying the bowler deliberately baited him into the mankad.

“The guy stops and then almost waits for him to get out of his crease. I don’t know what this is,” posted one punter.

“The bowler should be ashamed,” said another.

WHAT IS A MANKAD DISMISSAL?

The mankad, also known as “mankading”, is a controversial method of knocking out a non-striker in cricket. It involves the bowler, while in his bowling stride, stopping and removing the stirrups on the non-striker’s end, catching the non-striker from his crease and effectively releasing him.

The Mankad is named after Vinoo Mankad, an Indian cricketer who first used the technique during India’s 1947-48 tour of Australia. Since then the method has been used sporadically by bowlers in cricket and remains a contentious issue in the sport.
