The dress had a V-neckline and pockets on the sides, which Viola slipped her hands into as she posed for a selection of stylish snaps on the red carpet.

The Golden Globe winner added a pair of gold and turquoise earrings to match the color scheme of her overall glam look for the evening.

The How To Get Away With Murder alum also slipped into a pair of chic, closed-toe black heels.

Viola’s husband and fellow actor looked dapper in a classic navy check suit jacket and charcoal suit pants. He chose brown dress shoes and a brown and white striped tie pulled tight around the collar of his dress shirt.

The two lovebirds happily paused for some memorable snaps together before heading into the venue before the festivities began.

Not long after the ceremony began, Viola received the Chairman’s Award for her performance and work as an actress and producer on the 2022 film The Woman King.

The premise of the critically acclaimed “historical epic” is “inspired by true events that took place in the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states in Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries,” according to an IMDB synopsis.

Cate Blanchett presented Viola with the intricately constructed statuette and the two actresses quickly embraced and kissed her lightly on the cheeks.

According to The Desert Sun, a Palm Springs-based publication, the Fences star referenced the 1994 classic, The Shawshank Redemption, when speaking to the audience.

“Sometimes the journey for black actors is having this little hammer and chisel hacking at this block, an industry that says, ‘You can’t do a global box office…'” she explained.

Viola emotionally added, “We chiseled away and tried to swim through their p**s and s**t because the hammer and the chisel is all we’ve got.”

“Whether as an actress or producer, Viola Davis brings powerful stories to the screen,” said festival chairman Harold Matzner, according to a press release.

“In The Woman King, Davis continues to prove she’s a force of nature in this groundbreaking performance about the leader of the Agojie, a unit of all-female warriors,” he continued, adding that the award ceremony for the actress was a ‘huge success’ to honor.’

Just before the festival took place, Viola and her longtime partner Julius, who also starred as Moru in The Woman King, opened their doors to welcome Architectural Digest to their bright and stunningly decorated LA home.

The lovebirds have lived in the home with their daughter Genesis, 12, for a total of five years.

Speaking to the publication, the star revealed that both she and her husband “were working in South Africa filming The Woman King while the renovation was taking place and we were inspired by the incredible color and culture there.” I always want to be big and bold, but not too bold, not gaudy.’
