Waitress shocked after angry customer scrawled message on receipt refusing to tip her for ‘rude’ action

A waitress was stunned after a customer left a handwritten note complaining about her “rude” behavior.
The US worker who was caring for an elderly couple found a message written in black pen on the receipt. It said, “No tip because it was very rude to ask my wife and I if we would like separate checks?”
The angry guest claims he refused to tip because she asked whether or not they wanted to split the $102 bill.
“He had the audacity to write that with my pen,” the waitress wrote alongside the snap on Reddit.
She said the man appeared to be in his late 50s or early 60s, while his wife looked “much younger”.

“In my work, we’re supposed to ask if they’re separate checks and not assume they’re together,” she added.
“We had a couple and a couple of kids that came over for dinner once.” The waiter brought out a check and the woman panicked because the waiter assumed she and the man were still together.
“She kept talking about it, just because they look like family doesn’t mean they’re one man.” “That’s why we’re asking, because we want to prevent something like this from happening again.”
The Reddit thread received more than 13,000 likes and over 1,500 comments, with the majority favoring the employee’s side.
“Isn’t it customary to ask if everything is on a ticket or not?” “I get asked that literally every time I’m with more than one other adult,” one wrote.
“They probably didn’t want to tip anyway and found some lame excuse,” suggested another.
“How the hell are you supposed to know?” “I’ve seen people looking married, brother and sister, both with wedding rings,” added a third.
Another said: “Haha no we’re married a check is fine.” Is it really that hard? Talk about having an ego.’
Others mocked the customer for his handwriting.
“Looks like he wrote the pen with his whole fist,” joked one.
“This is so ridiculous, it’s ridiculous.” “I can’t believe people like that even exist,” said another.
