BWI Airport in Washington DC has been closed as police launch an investigation.

People trying to get to the airport said they were blocked in traffic – while others in the terminal said they couldn’t leave the airport.

The airport said in a statement: “Due to a law enforcement investigation, the terminal roadway is temporarily closed.” Vehicle traffic approaching the airport is currently suspended.

“Those in the terminal are advised to remain in place at this time.”

All Maryland Transit and Light Rail trains do not stop at the airport. Instead, light rail service ends at Cromwell station until further notice.

It is currently unclear what triggered the investigation.
