Wembley Stadium pays its respects to a footballing icon as the famous arch is lit up in the colors of Brazil to commemorate Pele, who sadly passed away on Thursday night at the age of 82
The Wembley Arch was lit up in the colors of Brazil in honor of Pele following the death of the football icon on Thursday night.
Pele died at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sao Paulo at the age of 82 after a long battle with colon cancer.
The famous London landmark and England’s ‘home of football’ paid homage to the three-time world champion by illuminating the archway in the famous green and yellow of Brazil.

The FA also shared the iconic image of Pele with Bobby Moore at the 1970 World Cup on screens around Wembley Stadium along with the words “Pele 1940-2022”.
It was also accompanied by a tweet from the official England site, which showed a picture of the arch and said: “Paying tribute to a true football icon. Rest in peace Pele’.
Thousands of tributes have been posted online for the football icon as the game mourns the loss of one of its biggest stars of all time.
