What is MIT in Overwatch 2?

Overwatch 2 saw a massive resurgence of Overwatch players following its release in early October. One of the key differences between Overwatch and Overwatch 2 is the transition from 6v6 to 5v5. Although the game has declined from its backend peak of 2022, the game still has a significant player base in 2023.
Many of the stats calculated in Overwatch 2 are the same as in the original game, such as damage done and healing done. Although there is one statistic that seems to be different. A stat called MIT replaced what was previously known as blocked damage.
There are a few questions players have about this new stat. What does MIT stand for and what does it charge for?

MIT stands for “damage mitigated,” which is slightly different than the previous “blocked damage” statistic. MIT accounts for blocked damage and any abilities that help prevent damage taken. A key ability for this is Ana’s Nano Boost (Z), which grants her ally 50% damage reduction. This stat would also include Reinhardt, Zarya, and Winston’s shields.
This stat is an improvement over just blocked damage because it spans more heroes in the game. MIT can help players understand if they’re contributing effectively to the team, and it will be a useful stat for the upcoming Overwatch 2 season.
