Coolidge has been open about her career as she reflects on what she called her “fatal mistake” during the days of her early success in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
When asked if she had a plan aimed at long life early in her acting career, she admitted that she didn’t.
“Now that I’m old enough to really look back on my life and certainly my mistakes, I see a lot of them.” But I never had a strategy. “I just went from job to job,” she explained.

Coolidge continued, “I have to say, I made the terrible mistake of not riding the wave I had early on.” It was sort of the ’90s when I had Legally Blonde, Best in Show and American Pie. And then there was Cinderella Story and stuff.
“But there was a moment. “There was a wave that I could have actually ridden, but I was really distracted.”
As for the distraction? “I started stalking guys,” she said.
“I was not paying attention. I just thought I had my whole life. I got some jobs, but I didn’t have a plan. And I think that was a fatal mistake on my part because it later took so long to get going.’
